To answer the question in another way: If you're image is used with a specific hardware (with the exception of the older hardware emulated by dynamips) you are out of luck. If it's not emulated by dynamips, not already a ready to run "virtual" hardware (either as VM or container) and not an IOU image you can't use the specific image. So to answer you question: Yes, you need specific images. can anyone advise me if cisco ios on unix has been released and if so how i could legally obtain a copy of it for.

You can also use networking software provide as a docker container by a vendor. For these VMs you can use different VM providers like qemu, VMWARE or VirtualBox.

A third option is to use Cisco IOU (IOS for UNIX) which is also a Linux with IOS Code inside but it's espacacily build for lab and learning environments, not to actually route or switch traffic. It started as an GUI for dynamips which can emulate certain older Cisco hardware and the images for this hardware.įor some time now you can use "virtual" networking hardware, like Cisco ASR1000v which is basically a Linux VM running the IOS Code inside. If you want to find out more about IOU, there is a FAQ on IOU on the Evil Routers website.GNS3 is a front end for different kinds of "virtual" network hardware. But if you DO get it and get past the licensing requirements, GNS3v1 will provide a great interface to design your simulations on!

So the bottom line is - we can't give it to you, or tell you how to get it. 1.1 - Add Cisco IOU/IOL Images into EVE-NG/UNL and Take License. Cisco IOS on UNIX (IOU) is a fully working version of IOS that runs as a user mode UNIX (Solaris) process.

Or, alternatively (if you are a Cisco employee) you can of course generate a valid licence code for IOU - apparently someone wrote a key generator so non-Cisco employees could generate their own keys, and published it on github - but it was taken down - which indicates to me that Cisco didn't like people doing that.

Which is where you tell GNS3 where you IOU licence file (IOURC) is! If you don't HAVE a valid licence your IOU image won't start anyway (unless you use a hex editor to go and HACK the IOU image itself so that it no longer looks for the licence - but of course I can't tell you how to do that either). You will find that in the GNS3 configuration for IOU images there is a field you need to fill out: So if I were to tell you where to find a copy of IOU, it would be a bit like me telling you how to get an illegal copy of a song from Pirate Bay or some such.īut even if you DO manage to get an illegitimate copy of an IOU image, you will still have to deal with the licensing. If you are not a Cisco employee and have used IOU, then you are basically admitting you have an illegal copy of an IOU image. We are going full-steam ahead producing a platform that can only be used by Cisco internal employees. Which leaves us in a very "interesting" situation. The great thing about this product is that most of the images from Cisco Routers & Switches, cisco iou images, eve-ng cisco switch, cisco vios download, Fortinet, Cisco ISE, Cisco FirePower, Cisco CSR, Nexus Switches, XRv Routers, PaloAlto FW, Check Point, Juniper, Windows, Linux, ESXi, IOS XE EVE-NG and other major vendors are installed on this.

And I suspect that if you are a CIsco employee, you probably don't want to share your images. IOU images are for Cisco internal use only, so if you're not a Cisco employee (or approved partner/customer), you can't legitimately get a copy, so that's why we can't tell you how to get one. With IOS images, I could sit on my "high and mighty" neutral position and tell you to "download an image from the Cisco website"īut for IOU images, things are not so easy. But the bottom line is that we can't tell you where to get an IOU image. "Please don't ask for images on this forum"īut it certainly isn't that clear now. I'm sure there used to be clear instructions somewhere that explained Evaristo - and many others who I'm sure are in the same boat
